        Thursday, October 15, 2009

        Thurs Oct 15 (A, D) / Fri Oct 16 (G)

        Homework:
        • STUDY FOR CHAPTER TEST next class!  You will be tested on everything we have done so far:  Integers, Fractions, Order of Operations (BEDMAS).  The test is out of 90 marks.
        • How to study:
        1. PREPARE.  Organize and review all your notes.
        2. PRACTICE.  Practice doing questions from your homework and your quizzes.  (This is why I ask you to copy the question when doing quizzes!)  Studying does NOT mean LOOKING over old questions and FLIPPING through pages.  Studying means DOING the questions again WITHOUT looking at the answers, then checking to see if you're correct.
        3. THINK and MEMORIZE.  Make a list of TIPS for yourself.  Where do you tend to make mistakes?  What do you keep forgetting?  Some examples of tips:
        • When adding and subtracting fractions, you must find the LCD.
        • Simplify before multiply!  You can simplify diagonally or vertically (always TOP AND BOTTOM) but never horizontally.
        • Reduce!  Answers must be in lowest terms.  (e.g.  -2/1 = -2)
        • Be careful with negative signs.
        WORK HARD!  GOOD LUCK!
